![]() ![]() Overall, for $15 there is just not enough there, am hoping for some free updates and new modes, because the bones here are good. As a nameless mage, your goal is to reach the heart of the ruin and put a stop to the corruption at all costs before it spreads out to the. Now what's left is a lifeless husk run through with corruption and teeming with twisted abominations. ![]() Because there is no difficulty spike built in and no permanent upgrades there is really no reason you couldn't just beat it on your first run if you got some good spells and upgrades. The titular Lone Ruin is all that remains of a civilization lifted to greatness through magic. I played this exclusively on Steam Deck with no issues, it took me under 2 hours (Seriously) to complete a full playthrough. It seriously feels almost like a demo or early access launch. The aesthetics though for this game are very good, the animations, art-style, and visuals all pop on the screen which is so strange because the actual game is so thin. You start with 1 weapon and a dash and upgrade as you go through the rooms, picking up new spells and passives, we've all done this before ad nauseum at this point in gaming. The music of Lone Ruin can easily be the best thing about the game hence it being placed as the first Pro in this review. Though it has a pretty interesting purple and black aesthetic, many of its individual components aren't all that unique. As always, we will be going over the Pros first to give you a good light of the game first. In the moment-to-moment gameplay, it is incredibly like the recent Hades, with little bits of other roguelikes running sprinkled in. The runs are quick and satisfying, with leaderboards and multiple weapons to encourage replay. ![]() The moment to moment gameplay is pretty fun if not at all innovative or inspiring. This is where Lone Ruin starts to lose its charm. Overall, Lone Ruin is a tough twin-stick shooter that hits the spot. Score: 65 /100 Released on January 12th, 2023 Add to wishlist. There is only 1 level that features about 15 rooms and 3 bosses, once you beat it you get the end credits, there is no story at all, there are only about 8 different enemy types, and the rooms and animations are similar and static throughout. Venture into an old, magical ruin to seek an ancient power in this highly replayable roguelike twin-stick shooter. Being a roguelike, there isn’t any weaponry or stats to keep grinding to pass on to the next run. The main quest has three bosses and twenty one levels an average run can take about an hour or so depending on skill. Lone Ruin Switch review Lone Ruin is a roguelike with style but it lacks in originality, making for an overall experience that’s worthwhile for fans of Hades and Diablo, but one that doesn’t quite match up to the epic scale of those adventures. I would say this is one of the most under developed games I can remember, not from a polish or quality standpoint but just from a content perspective. In terms of extra content, in that regard Lone Ruin is somewhat lacking. I would say this Lone Ruin is a very bare bones new roguelike from Cuddle Monster Games that features 1 repeatable track of levels and bosses.
